Learn about Route Setting at Red Spider!

Route Setting is the heart of Red Spider, so we thought it would be a good idea to tell you a bit more about how it works!

Route Setting Map

Currently, we set every Thursday (excluding half terms), rotating through a different area of the wall each week. On average, an area of the wall will be reset every 6 to 7 weeks, except the Comp Wall, which is set every month due to its popularity! Our aim is to keep the centre fresh and provide new climbs each week.

We keep setting disruption to an absolute minimum, setting as quickly as possible to ensure all areas of the wall are open by the evening of each setting day. For Comp Wall sets, we do strip the wall the day before, but to make up for this, we set some super interesting ‘One Night Only’ boulders for you to try!

If you want to find out when we’re setting, we post our schedule on this website page every month, and we also post to our Instagram and Facebook stories on each setting day to keep you informed!

Recent Setting Changes:

We’ve just introduced a brand-new short reach circuit with some fantastic new Captain Crux holds and we’re super excited to set some new, short friendly, routes for your enjoyment. This will provide some much-needed change in that area of the setting that will hopefully inspire some great new ideas for boulders!

Alongside this, for all of our top climbers, we also have some brand-new holds for our two hardest circuits (Red and Black). It’s always nice to get new holds for a circuit but, when it comes to setting those top grades, it can be essential to mix it up a bit to make those creative juices flow and create problems you’ll love!

Setting Feedback!

We’ve recently been trialling Setting Feedback Forms, to allow you to share your thought about setting at Red Spider. If you have any ideas, improvements or feedback from any of our sets, do let us know! We are always keen to improve the experience here at Red Spider, and we can’t do this without your feedback. Ask at the desk for a feedback form or shoot an email to climb@redspiderclimbing.com to share your thoughts with us!
